Our Booth at the Portland Bridal Show
The Wedding Cottage hosted a booth at the 2010 Portland Bridal Show. The show was a huge success! We loved having the chance to meet so many engaged couples and their friends and families. I was really impressed to meet one groom who came without his bride! He promised her he’d go, but she had to go out of town at the last minute. He kept his promise and went without her…too cute! We handed out over 500 tote bags and 1000 brochures with information about our Cottage. We hope everyone liked our booth and got lots of great ideas for their upcoming weddings.

One of our most popular etiquette questions when it comes to wording Wedding invitations is “How to word a wedding invitation with divorced parents?”. While we reference “Crane’s Wedding Blue Book” and “Emily Post Wedding Etiquette”, we use etiquette as a guide and not a rule. We always want you to pick wording that is comfortable for you and your family so that no person’s feelings are hurt. Oftentimes, we find that using the line “Together with our parents” or “Together with our families” is a simply solution.
What proper etiquette says…
When the bride’s parents are divorced, the proper way to word an invitation is to list the names of the bride’s parents at the top of the invitation. The mother’s name will appear on the first line and the father’s name is on the line beneath it. The lines are not separated by “and.”
If the bride’s mother has not remarried, she uses “Mrs.” followed by her first name, maiden name, and married name. When the bride’s mother is divorced from the bride’s father and has remarried, she uses “Mrs.” followed by her husband’s full name.
The above etiquette is the same when listing the groom’s parents underneath his name on a “son of” line.
For more information about wedding invitation etiquette, never hesitate to give us a call or send us an email. Feel free to read more about wedding etiquette by visiting http://www.crane.com/etiquette.aspx?C=WeddingEtiquette.
